umm yes there are actually genetic links dear! I agree u are not born with anorexia but certain dna predisposes you to developing an ED just as autism or cancer has genetic links. I do not choose to have anorexia. It started soon after traumatic events & 4 a long time I had no idea what was happening to me. It was my way of coping then the disease took on a mind of its own & yes it IS a disease! It is also a pychiatric illness not just vain little girls looking up to their idols in the media!

I find it hard to think of anorexia as a serious disorder, let alone a “disease”. Cancer is a disease. A disease by its very nature can affect anyone, but anorexia seems to be a much more cultural thing. You wouldn’t find anorexics in African or Indian countries, nor would you find them amongst the poverty-stricken in the Western World.I know it’s not something people always exactly “choose” to get, but it’s certainly avoidable. Would you call self-harm a disease?

…but what about the people who dont have anorexia to be thin? some have anxiety disorders that provoke them…or have control issues…and some use it as a form of self-harm instead of things like cutting and burning. And some just want a perfect body for the sake of haveing 1 good thing about themselves if they beleive their completly worthless.fun vid though :-) very amuseing and good point about not haveing to starve to be thin.
