As we see the setting of one government and the dawn of a new one, I implore you Senator Obama to hear my message. Will you take this position of honor and truly live up to our hopes? Will you bring back the honor in this office that was once bestowed upon John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, and more recently John F. Kennedy?
With all of the issues at hand now, can you truly steer this country back towards the revolutionary roots we once were so proud of? The world demands much of you Senator Obama, but will you turn your back on America’s children as many of your predecessors have, and continue to lead us towards utter collapse for the benefit of few at the cost of many. Forgive my grandiosity Senator but I am afraid that things are much worse than our Government leads us to believe. I fear that America is destined as Rome to fall to those around us we seek to control. I hear the warnings of the late President Kennedy who said, “We must face the fact that the United States is neither omnipotent or omniscient, that we are only 6 percent of the world’s population, that we cannot impose our will upon the other 94 percent, that we cannot fight every wrong, or reverse each adversity, and that therefore there cannot be an American solution to every world problem.” These words rang true in the 1960s Cold War and now I believe ring even truer in today’s tumultuous world climate. Will you condemn and remove those in the Military Industrial Complex that Gen. Eisenhower dutifully warned our nation’s leaders against long ago or will you fold under the strain and pressure they most assuredly will lay upon you. Will you bring the people back into our Government or is your “hope” just a slogan? Do you truly have the audacity to change things or is that audacity left on the campaign trail to rot with the other promises? Are you really for the “middle class”, the working commoners who have lost their hope in that “what is wrong with America can truly be cured by what is right with America”, or will you turn on them in hushed closed door meetings with the privileged few? Are you the “Change Candidate” that will bring new ideas and direction to this once great nation or will you continue the “business as usual” in Washington.
Senator Obama, I do not want answers to these questions. I don’t want the usual rehearsed and scripted political responses. I want you to show us your answers in the actions of your administration in the coming years. I want you to think about this letter and ask yourself if you are living up to the hope you have given all of us; or have you forgotten America. I do hope you remember who came before you, the Adams’, Lincoln, FDR, and Kennedy. I hope you can live up to the honor they bestowed on this once great office. I hope you can live up to the audacity you taught us to have. Honor those who have past by changing the course of our future. Do you have the Audacity?
